Kathryn Sheriff

Based by a railway line in South London, Kathryn makes functional, wheel thrown porcelain ceramics in small batches from her studio.

She aims for simple designs with clean lines and muted colour palettes that are practical and tactile.

Inspired by mid-century modern design, decoration is applied using coloured slips, inlaid lines and carved repeating patterns.

Every piece made is designed for everyday use in the home. After throwing on the wheel, drying and turning, each piece is biscuit fired, glazed and high fired in an electric kiln.

The exterior surfaces are often left unglazed and are then diamond polished to create a tactile contrast between the raw porcelain clay and the glazed surfaces.
